Manchester Pub Venue Transformed

Allison Pike have completed a complete transformation of 256 Wilmslow Road Manchester for Hydes Brewery into a contemporary pub and venue. Prominently positioned at the heart of Fallowfield, opposite Owens Park, the new stylish Bar & Kitchen has been developed to appeal to students, academics as well as the locals of Fallowfield and beyond. The stunning interior plays on the architectural character of the Listed Building utilising the original brickwork and wooden floors and contrasting them with new glass balustrade, stylish fixed seating and new joinery to create a dramatic space that is comfortable throughout the day and evening.
The new backfitting comprises an industrial racking system with concealed LED lighting and this industrial theme is echoed in the exposed services and urban finishes. Comfort is expressed in the lounge seating and loose furniture which were carefully selected to tie together with the aesthetic of the scheme. Various bespoke fittings were designed for 256 including one off lighting pieces and the wall mounted artwork. The pub interior is dominated by the double height volume and a large dramatic bar and backfitting was essential to respond to the space.
Large lighting elements feature strongly in the main space to help bring down the apparent height while allowing vision through to the building’s feature windows, trusses and ceiling details. Externally the garden area was substantially remodeled with new paving, lighting, grass and gazebos to bring the feel of the interior outside.
