The Boathouse at Parkgate Revisited

A well-known destination food venue on the Wirral, the Boathouse was acquired by Hydes Brewery in the recent past. While identifying that the site was in need of a refurbishment the client was keen to preserve and enhance some of the characteristics that have given the pub its popularity, while broadening its appeal and flexibility.

Within the design Allison Pike brought their experience to bear to create a more open and lighter interior design, influenced by the name and coastal location, incorporating some nautical references and introducing a soft duck egg blue internally and externally.

The bar benefits from a completely new backfitting which links the bar and restaurant areas and allows views through to the estuary.Views out to the estuary are an important feature of the dining conservatory, bar area and external terraces.

The scheme incorporates an improved link from the bar to the western terrace as well as a new look south terrace with external fixed seating and festoon lighting. The designers were keen to build on the atmosphere and popular features within the pub while with limited opening up adding more usable dining covers and a more contemporary bar feel. A mix of leather, brass, polished timber and distressed paint finish was used to infuse the new Boathouse with its own unique character.

Oldham based Main Contractor Medlock FRB completed the project for Hydes.
